Ambitions
Welcome to our Ambitions page!
This is a place where we think big and dream loudly.
Mannkind benefits from a wide set of charitable objectives so that means, if you get involved with our mission, you will have an opportunity to work directly with our members and our community partners to create a better tomorrow for those in need in your community and around the world.
Here are highlights from 2009-2011 and some of our Big plans for the future:
Supporting Orphan Care Facilities: 2 in Chennai, India.
- Good Life Centre
- Balagurukulan
Big plans for the future: Our board of directors and members are excited to have an opportunity this coming year to evolve the existing educational and healthcare programs in order to raise the overall standards at both care facilities. Along with program improvements, Mannkind also plans to open up additional volunteer opportunities, for international students and professionals, to work with our partners and programs in India. We are also budgeting for another year of music and dance programs at the Good Life Centre. These have been a huge hit so far and we look forward to sharing videos with you soon!

Operation Rainbow Canada (ORC) trips: 2 trips (2009 & 2010) to Akal Charitable Hospital in India.
Akal Charitable Hospital, Baru Sahib, is located in a distant corner of the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. Mannkind’s last trip in 2010 was a huge success! In partnership with ORC, our medical support team helped preform over 120 successful surgeries for children and adults in this remote area surrounded by the beautiful Himalayan mountains.

Big plans for the future: Mannkind members will be funding and participating in another ORC trip to Cambodia in February, 2012! Stay up to date with details and volunteer opportunities for this trip on our Facebook page!
Trees-plantings in Canada: 3,550 in Surrey, BC

- 1,000 trees planted at Sullivan Park
- 1,000 trees planted at Bear Creek Park
- 850 trees planted at William Beagle Park
- 700 trees planted at Tamanawis Park
Big plans for the future: Working with the City of Surrey and community stakeholders to build an arboretum that will highlight the trees from all the countries of the pacific rim with a donor legacy and information booth at the centre. The cool part is that the entire lay-out for the arboretum will be shaped just like the Pacific-rim itself so it will provide great learning opportunities for kids of all ages! Plans are still in the works and Mannkind directors will be meeting with the Surrey Parks department in the New Year to flush out a community proposal to help generate understanding and support for this unique eco-project in south Surrey.

Stay tuned to our blog and Facebook page for updates in 2012!
Trees plantings abroad: 2,000 trees with protective cages in Punjab, India.
Our on-going project focuses on planting trees along major roadways. This project serves to restore balance to the local eco-system so that the birds can return to the area and pilgrims can enjoy fruits and shade along their trek to the Golden Temple.

Big plans for the future: The trees were planted in 2009 and they are required to remain in their protective cages for three years. This means that in 2012 we will have to remove the cages to let the trees grow strong on their own. The remaining cages will be used to protect another round 2,000 trees planted along major road ways in Punjab, India.
Fighting Poverty in Surrey, BC: Since late 2009, Mannkind members and volunteers, in partnership with our friends at Surrey Costco, have organized weekly food deliveries to various food banks, social support and community organizations in Surrey. That’s over 110 deliveries and counting so far! Mannkind members have also harnessed the power of online social networking to create a Facebook Winter Coat and Sock Drive that collected 252 coats, 262 pairs of socks, 8 scarves, 16 blankets, 19 pairs of gloves, 22 hats and 217 miscellaneous articles of clothing.

Big plans for the future: For 2012 Mannkind wants to take its poverty alleviation programs in Surrey to the next level, because nowhere is the need greater than right in our own backyard! We’re in the midst of exploring partnership opportunities with BC Housing, the City of Surrey, the Surrey Housing and Homelessness Society and other private community stakeholders to create a long-term and sustainable affordable housing solution in Surrey.
This project is aimed particularly for youth aged 16-23 so that we can keep them off the streets and out of trouble. Mannkind will work with community partners to secure land and utilize its construction resources via Isle of Mann to develop safe, supportive housing units that will also be integrated with job and life skills development programs. This way they can get on the right path with the skills and confidence to stay on it!
